About the Foundation and Its Institutions

The Chance Instead of Aid Foundation (registration number: 01-01-0002923, tax number: 18007679-1-43) was established in 1992 by the employees, patients and relatives of the psychiatric department no. 2 of the St. Imre Hospital, under the leadership of Dr. Annamária Zseni. At that time, for the purpose of developing the maintenance of rehabilitation work, gardening.

In the following years, the Foundation established its system of health and social institutions, in accordance with the objectives and tasks listed in its Charter , which it operates in an integrated manner, so that the Department became an independent service provider.

The Thalassa House Institute of Psychotherapy and Psychiatric Rehabilitation began its operation on 1 March 2003 under the leadership of one of its founders, Dr. Zsolt Zalka. In order to establish an integrated rehabilitation institution system, the Rehabilitation Institute for Discharge Addicts was established in 2006, and in 2008 the Pier Supported Housing was established.

The objectives set out in the Articles of Association are:

  • researching, organizing and providing care opportunities for people with various psychological disorders and addiction states;

  • creating jobs for rehabilitated people with disabilities (establishment and operation of temporary institutions);

  • raising the professional level of rehabilitation work and supporting professional training.

In order to achieve the above goals, the Grant Instead of Chance Foundation performs the following tasks in the institute it operates:

  • treatment, psychiatric and psychotherapeutic rehabilitation of adult and adolescent patients with certain mental disorders (psychotic conditions, personality disorders, addictions, and "double diagnosis" pathologies);

  • research and training on prevention and therapeutic options;

  • providing multi-level social support, care and care to patients who have been in a socially impossible situation, or before that, to patients who have been in a socially impossible situation; with particular emphasis, promoting the healing, start-of-life and integration of young people into society, ensuring the conditions for this, integrating learning and rehabilitation opportunities through structured cooperation with schools;

  • operating a social institution according to Sections 72-73 of Act III of 1993 to carry out the above rehabilitation tasks, whose task is to restore the independent life management skills of the residents.

The financial management of the Foundation

The Foundation shall be autonomous in the pursuit of its objectives and shall not engage in economic activities as its primary activity. Its executive body is the four-member Board of Trustees.

Health care, as the main activity, is carried out on real estate owned by the Hungarian state, while social care providing subsidized housing is provided in the family house owned by the Foundation.

In addition to state funding, the financial conditions necessary for the operation of its Institutions and the full range of services listed below are provided from the outset by private donations, ad hoc corporate grants and tenders, as a public non-governmental organisation. Elements funded by the Chance Instead of Aid Foundation:

  • buildings providing the background for hospital and social care and ensuring their operation,

  • acquisition and maintenance of technical systems and fixed assets,

  • the installation of patients' rooms and additional service rooms of care,

  • personal and material conditions of nonverbal therapies:

    • music therapy

    • movement therapy,

    • art therapy,

    • psychodrama and playback,

  • case management service provided by our social worker,

  • system supervision,

  • training of staff,

  • international and domestic quality assurance systems.
